Does not follow rules
Strategies to Consider:
There are a variety of reasons why children may not be following the rules. Sometimes rules and expectations are not age-appropriate or are unclear to students. Sometimes the student has lost interest or has been given too much down time. Be sure your students are certain of their task. Also, it is critical that they find their work to be relevant to themselves. Be sure you are gaining their interest by framing the work in something that makes sense to them. For example, rather than simply introducing double-digit addition and assigning ten problems, ask the students places where they see double-digit numbers and list their answers on the board. Use their answers to illustrate meaningful places and events that will make their work with double digits come to life.
Review Expectations and Rules at the beginning of class.If the teacher has not left any rules; have your own expectations and rules prepared; or create them together with the students depending on the age and grade.
Increase Engaged Time for students. This will help direct their attention to the academic task and decrease their attention elsewhere.

Finally, be sure you can determine consequential and inconsequential behaviors. Planned Ignoring can often be your best response. Remember, choosing to ignore a behavior does not mean you are endorsing it. Students will see that you choose to give your attention to those who follow the rules and they will do the same.
